ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Erin M. Hamilton, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Texas Tech University)

In the fall, Erin M. Hamilton will transition to join the faculty of Interior Architecture at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. Her research explores the social and behavioral dimensions of green buildings, with a focus on how sustainable buildings may support the cultivation of environmentally responsible behaviors and overall wellbeing. She teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and enjoys the creativity of crafting a good research design.

Anne Herndon, AIA, LEED AP (Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Texas Tech University, Design Staff, Project Director – Lake | Flato)

As project director in Lake | Flato’s higher education studio and leader of the firm’s employee-driven research program, Anne champions the application of scientific knowledge to the design process. Her commitment to understanding relationships between architecture, people and planet helps in creating environments that support learning and encourage interaction while promoting human and planetary well-being.

Segene Park, AIA (AIAJ / 2021 President)

Segene Park is an Architect and Urban Planner at Nikken Sekkei; 2022 AIA International Spring Conference Chair, Board Member. 2023 - 2024 Secretary; AIA Japan Immediate Past President, Board Member, Chair of HF Council, Strategic and Design Awards Committee; ULI Japan UrbanPlan Volunteer, Organizer; Member of 2008 - 2012 Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation Committee; 2006 Chicago Architectural Club; 1995 Lions Club International Seoul.

Segene was born in 1973 in Seoul. He joined Nikken Sekkei after relocation to Tokyo, bringing with him over many years of architectural design, urban planning, and firm leadership experience from Epstein and SOM in Chicago. His project brought the numerous architecture and urban planning awards; were published in Architectural Record, New York Times Online Edition, AIA Magazine, ArchDaily, and other major publications; exhibited in Venice Biennale, Art Institute of Chicago, Cityscape, and other exhibitions.

So far, he has been involved with different kinds of worldwide projects on all scales: architectural designs for residential, office, hotel, museum, convention center, high-rise, super tall, and sustainable building; interior design; smart city, landscape design and urban planning. Speaker at SGBF virtual side event of UN HLPF; the panelist for YLG Forum during ULI Asia Pacific Summit; participated in studio reviews at Nihon and Meiji University.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR:

James Scott Brew, AIA (Nikken Sekkei Tokyo / Senior Sustainability and Wellness Architect)

James Scott Brew, AIA is a senior sustainability and wellness architect, building scientist, and “student of story” with NIKKEN SEKKEI (Tokyo) where he specializes in helping to inspire and create high-performance, sustainable, healthy buildings and cities for people and the environment.

He has over 35 years of design and construction experience, and has completed hundreds of projects focused on historic preservation, healthy, high-performance, low-energy designs, and helped create dozens of sustainable campus and community plans.

His work extends from the U.S. to Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.  Before joining NIKKEN, James co-led the buildings practice as a Principal Architect at Rocky Mountain Institute.

James also spent 18 years as a principal owner, vice-president and pioneer of sustainable design, helping to grow his own Minnesota-based architecture and engineering firm from a small, single-focused team, to nearly 200 people on 7 client-focused teams.
