Designing Buildings with Human Health, Welfare & Safety Priority

stephen tanno (sChuEco)

thursday, april 22, 2021 @19:00 JST (18:30 to 19:00 is a TEST SESSION)

SUMMARY:
Mr. Stephen Tanno, Director of Pre-Construction Services of Scheco International will talk about the theme of “Health, Welfare & Safety” encompassing sustainable, low-carbon, low-energy design and passive environmental control.  He will define the principles of human-oriented comfort and highlight measures to enhance health and promote wellness.  He will explain about products and options to reduce surface contamination to help deliver healthy buildings.

The presentation will include a case-study example of an educational building in London completed in 2020 which achieved a “BREEAM Excellent” certification.  The building is an outstanding example of low energy design and collaborative working.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Participants in this session will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate that sustainability & conservation of resources can be achieved by using the principles of natural ventilation and thermal mass which also promote the health and welfare of building occupants.

  2. Explain the idea of healthy buildings needing fresh air and discuss human wellness promotion by allowing connection to the outside but avoiding external noise pollution in city environments.

  3. Illustrate that surface contamination with bacteria and viruses can be reduced through the use of anti-microbe and easy to clean finishes thereby promoting a healthy and safe environment.

  4. Analyze the embodied carbon in buildings and the carbon footprint over the whole life of a building and demonstrate that it can be enhanced by low-energy good design and fine craftsmanship to build buildings that are defect-free and will endure for generations.
