SUMMARY:
The term "digitalisation" is used ubiquitously and in an inflationary manner these days. Nonetheless no one would argue against the fact that the world is constantly evolving through the prolific use of technology. Buildings and cities are no exception. The lecture will show different areas of digitalisation in the building context, from planning to fabrication and from the building skin to the smart city. The way we design, create and interact with buildings and cities is subtly and continuously changing. The lecture will explain some of these changes and give an outlook on things to come.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1.      Explain the status quo and necessity for digital innovation in the building industry.
2.      Recall the historical context of current digitalisation trends in city and building concepts.
3.      Provide insights into technology embedded into the building skin.
4.      Provide insights into how new players are disrupting the way cities are designed and utilised.
