online lecture:
Your Home & Your Health: Understanding Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) at Home

James Scott Brew (Nikken Sekkei)

Saturday, April 23, 2022 @10:00 JST (09:30 to 10:00: TEST SESSION)

SUMMARY:
The air in your home is likely much worse than the air outside. Given how much time we spend at home, this can be bad for your health. This session will focus on an introduction to indoor air quality at home, why you should care about it, and what to do if your air needs improvement. In addition to identifying the most common sources of pollution in homes, the speaker will use stories of serious health impacts from common toxins and chemicals that happened to 3 architects—2 of whom he knows personally. The speaker will also introduce his personal air quality education journey and how he monitors air quality in his Tokyo home, as well as how to mitigate some of the common problems that most homes have.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After attending this program, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify at least three (3) indoor air quality (IAQ) pollutants.

  2. Explain the relationship between air quality and health.

  3. Describe three (3) strategies to improve the IAQ in your home.
