SUMMARY:
Despite having a humid subtropical climate characterized by warm and wet summers and relatively mild winters (central to western Japan), Japanese architecture has been heavily influenced by European culture and architectural movements.

Today, however, Japanese architects are beginning to realize that the country is in need of completely different climate solutions from those in Europe’s cold and dry climate.

Unfortunately, in many Asian countries, vernacular architecture, especially open-air spaces, have gradually disappeared, replaced by glass boxes and air conditioning common in the western world. It is time to propose a new Asian Architecture from Japan appropriate to the Asian climate and culture.
