PRESIDENT

Tomoaki TANAKA, B.Eng., M.Eng., M.Arch.(Yale Univ.), D.Arch.(Waseda Univ.), First Class Registered Architect (Japan), AIA: Professor of Department of Architecture, School of Science and Technology at Meiji University.

Tomoaki Tanaka has been active in education and research on architectural design, site design, and architectural planning. He served as a Deputy Director of the Headquarters of International Collaboration from 2012 to 2016 and serves as a President’s Staff from 2016 to 2020. Tanaka is also a practicing architect as a principal of FORMS. He is a registered architect in Japan and New York. He is a member of American Institute of Architects, and currently on a Board of Directors of Japan Chapter. He serves as 2021 AIAJ Vice President and has been elected for 2022 AIAJ President. He also won Honorable Mention in 2018 and Award of Merit in 2008 in AIA Japan Design Award.

Tetsuya YAGUCHI, Ph.D., AIA, AICP, LEED AP: Professor Waseda University, Dept. of Architecture, School of Creative Science and Engineering

Tetsuya Yaguchi has 20 years of professional experience as an architect/ urban designer working on a wide range of projects for private and public clients. He worked at AECOM San Francisco office as an associate Principal and worked on various types of projects in the United States, Asia, and Middle East countries.

He currently holds an academic position at Waseda University and conducts theoretical research and urban design exercises that focus on sustaining and enhancing the built environment through understanding the physical, social, ecological, and technological underlying system of the cities as a whole. Mr. Yaguchi is a certified planner in the United States and a registered architect in Japan and California.

Yumiko Yamada, AIA: Partner at SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA) in Tokyo, Japan

Yumiko Yamada was born in 1976 and speaks three languages fluently - English, Japanese, and French. She joined OMA, after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. In 2002, Yumiko joined SANAA and became a partner in 2013. She led the SANAA team on the Rolex Learning Center at the EPFL in Switzerland from competition to completion and worked as project director for the Louvre-Lens museum in France. Her current projects include the Sydney Modern Project in Australia and the MIT Music Building in Cambridge, MA. In addition to her work at SANAA, Yumiko has guest lectured at universities in the US, Israel, Switzerland, Korea, and Japan. She is also currently involved in conservation and redevelopment efforts of Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in Japan.
