1. Introduction of new members
- New members George Kunihiro, Hisaya Sugiyama, Nicolai
Kruger, and Yasuyuki Yanagisawa are welcomed to the Board.
Nicolai will participate in the meetings, but will not
vote concurrently with her husband, Yasuyuki.
2. Confirmation of 2007 calendar
- Board meetings will be held on Thursdays and Fridays
this year. All dates are tentative and subject to change.
3. 5th AHEC Japan Convention
- 15 AIA Japan Members are invited to this year’s
conference, April 25 11:00 to 19:00. Reception 19:00
to 21:00. Good for 6 CES credits. Free of charge. Jim
to send email to members for RSVP.
4. Report from Yasu Sakurai regarding Membership
Renewal of Affiliates
- Erco Toto, Marvin Windows, and Daiko have renewed 2007
affiliate status. Others pending.
- Further measures discussed to boost affiliate membership
- Michel proposes inviting vendors for joint lunchtime
presentation to AIA members in proximity.
- Board approves corporate logos to appear on front
page of AIA Japan website, and to offer event sponsorship
opportunities to corporate affiliates.
- Measures discussed to increase student membership.
- George proposes student event to advise students
seeking study-abroad info. with lecturer like Chiaki
Arai.
- Board approves to invite students to AIA Japan
lectures.
5. Report from Jun and Jim regarding meeting at
JIA
- Reciprocal relationship for JIA CPD credits and AIAJ
CES credits already in effect.
- JIA and AIA will work together in promoting the role
of the architect
- 2011 Northwest & Pac. Rim Regional Conference – Tokyo
- UIA conference is Sept. 25-29 2011. Jim proposes
to host the Regional conference Sept. 22-24.
- Board approves informing JIA and NW&P Regional
council of AIA Japan’s interest in hosting
2011 conference.
- Final commitment to host 2011 conference to be
made after feasibility study by steering committee.
Members are: George, Yonezawa-san, Riccardo, Jun,
Nicolai, Sakurai-san, Tsuyuki-san, Hisaya, and Jim.
- AIA Japan to invite Hong Kong chapter to November
event to acquire know-how.

and proposal for November Event
- November 17 is possible date for event tentatively
titled “Urban Regeneration for Economic Development”.
US Embassy, Temple Univ. Japan are co-sponsors. AIA Japan
and Tokyo Planning Forum are potential co-sponsors. Geeta
talking with Shinsei Bank in Hibiya to provide venue.
Big-name speaker and moderator needed.

9. Report from Wac regarding 2006 Budget
- Good standing confirmed with balance of 727967 yen.
10. Confirmation of 2007 Budget.
- Board approves 2007 budget proposed by President
with the following adjustments.
- Website maintenance fee is 15000 yen/month.
- No
travel budget for JIA-AIA meeting this year because
JIA conference is held in Tokyo.
- Allotment
of funds for AIA Japan members to attend Regional
Conference in Spokane: 200000 yen.
- Separate
AIA Japan phone line at PCP office: 9600 yen. Voicemail
option to be studied to relieve PCP office staff
workload.
- Affiliate membership of Wrightian
Architectural Archives Japan
- Proposal for
free attendance for AIA Japan members to TPF AIAJ
Lectures declined at this time. Taxi fee for lecturers
at 10000 yen per lecture for total of 50000 yen annually
is approved instead.
- Allotment of funds for
events, including Big Event in November
- To be discussed and funds allocated appropriately:
- Awards program: Large budget may be needed
if Hon. AIA judges are invited.
