In this lecture Rebecca will address many issues of LEED and CASBEE:

As a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA), Mr. Muraoka is certified as being extensively experienced in the highly specialized field of healthcare architecture. He is the only ACHA member in Hawai‘i.

  • LEED 2009. How does it differ from previous versions, and will it make a difference from previous LEED-inspired design strategies?
  • CASBEE. An overview of the salient features of this sustainable design rating system, developed in Japan. How does it differ from LEED, and what does this mean for the sustainable building designs that result?
  • Applicability of LEED in Japan. What are the challenges of implementing LEED standards on projects in Japan?
  • Sustainable Technologies Already in Use in Japan. What sustainable technologies are already commonly used in buildings in Japan? How might they be improved? Do they represent an ad hoc “bolt-on” solution, or do they provide holistic sustainable design solutions?

Rebecca K. Green is a Senior Consultant based in the ERM Japan office and is the Green Building Lead in Asia Pacific for ERM’s Group Energy & Climate Change Core Team. In her current position she consults throughout the region on a variety of projects related to sustainable design; green building ratings; and energy, carbon, and resource reduction for new construction and existing buildings. Ms. Green has a background in project management and building engineering with an HVAC focus and is a registered LEED Accredited Professional. Prior to joining ERM, she worked on the project management team of a major Japanese developer, focusing on a large scale international hotel project and was also employed by a leading heating and air conditioning manufacturer where she was an engineering consultant. She has experience in energy reduction, life-cycle analysis, and cost analysis and has worked with engineers and owners to develop green building solutions for a wide range of real estate projects.
