Design: Physiological and Psychological Factors

What is the recent research on issues such as semantic memory, environmental press and environmental memories; and how is it being used in the field of design?  This lecture will give both a brief overview of the research and concrete examples in the following areas:

  • AGE (from infant to elder) : how changes in our senses, our muscularskeletal system, etc. affect how we interact with our environment;
  • ILLNESS (Alzheimer's, mental illness, terminal illness, etc.): how design can help or hinder;
  • GENDER : Do differences in color vision, temperature, life expectancy etc. make any difference in how we design spaces?
