Introduction:
Shimokitazawa is a unique neighborhood along the Odakyu line,
famous for its human scale urban fabric, roji networks, and
artful entertainments. It has, however, been threatened
by the new construction of a city planning road which was
planned 60 years ago, threatening to turn it into a sterile
redevelopment zone. This lecture will focus on
the serious controversy between the strict regulations of
the Setagaya Ward government/civil engineers and the protesting
local citizen's groups. |
